Tampa Bay Abortion Fund Launching Digital Ad Campaign to Spread the Word About Abortion Options

The campaign will help connect people seeking abortion information, funding and practical support with TBAF.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TAMPA, FL — July 29, 2022 — To ensure people in need of abortion care in the Greater Tampa Bay area receive accurate information about abortion access in Florida, Tampa Bay Abortion Fund is launching a Google Search ad campaign in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Sarasota-Lakeland media market on August 1.

During the two-week campaign, supported by a grant from Liberate Abortion, individuals in the targeted areas who search Google for questions like, “Is abortion legal?” or “How can I pay for an abortion?” will be served a direct link to TBAF’s intake phone line and website at the top of their search results. The ads will also be served to residents in Atlanta, Georgia, and Huntsville and Mobile, Alabama, as Florida is the closest region with less restrictive abortion laws for individuals seeking care from those areas.

“In light of Florida’s ban on abortions over 15 weeks going into effect on July 1 and the overturning of Roe v. Wade, we want to ensure everyone is aware of where to turn for help accessing abortion” says Kris Lawler, Tampa Bay Abortion Fund board president. “We are concerned that people may be confused about Florida’s laws and uncertain what their options are now. Through these ads, people can simply click and be connected to our intake line or website to begin the process of receiving the support they need, whether they are under 15 weeks pregnant and looking for abortion care in the Tampa Bay area or over 15 weeks and seeking options out of state.”

In addition to the digital ads, TBAF is also working with its partner clinics on a postcard campaign, also funded by an institutional grant. The postcards, with information about TBAF’s out-of-state partner clinics and the steps to take to access care, including contacting TBAF, will be given to any clients at TBAFs local clinics who are over the state-imposed limit. The fund is also rolling out a sticker campaign, where volunteers will be posting informational stickers directing them to TBAF’s website if they chose to be unpregnant around Tampa Bay-area neighborhoods.

“We believe these campaigns will help more people who are looking for information about where to get an abortion in the Tampa Bay area, as well as how to access funding or practical support like transportation and childcare, connect with TBAF and our partners,” Lawler adds. “We are here, we are funding, and we are ready to get people the abortion care they deserve.”

TBAF is also calling on the Tampa Bay community to to continue spreading the message about abortion options, including self-managed abortion, and continue funding abortion care.
